I spent four days in Northern China this July to cool down the summer heat. A Chinese friend recommended the Changbai region to me a few months back, so there I went, and it surely didn’t disappoint me.
The Changbai Mountains are a major mountain range, ranked as one of the top ten famous mountains in China. It is also the border mountain between China and North Korea, where I experienced the interesting blending of Chinese and Korean cultures. People in Northern China eat “Dongli”, also known as frozen pears. There is a lot of Korean food around, and it always comes in big portions. It wasn’t in my favour, unfortunately, given I was the solo traveller on this trip. I made a few new friends there, including a goat, camel, fox, and some reindeer.
The weather wasn’t the best, which was a shame. For this reason, I didn’t appreciate the full beauty when I was on the mountain because of the howling wind and beading rain. But it’s hard to have everything perfect in place, isn’t it? Anyway, I got what I needed in the end – a cool summer!
