If I had to pick a spirit animal, it would absolutely be the raccoon. Raccoons are known for their “feral” charm and “trashy” lifestyle, and honestly, I can relate to both. They’re bold, resourceful, and unafraid to get their paws a little dirty in pursuit of what they want. Whether they’re digging through a trash can or making themselves at home just about anywhere, raccoons show us that sometimes it’s okay to be a bit wild. In a way, raccoons are “savage recyclers”—taking what others discard and turning it into opportunity.
What I love most about raccoons is their motto: “It’s trash can, not trash cannot.” This phrase reminds me to tackle life’s challenges head-on, no matter how messy they seem. Raccoons don’t see obstacles; they see opportunities—especially if there’s food involved. They’re problem-solvers who aren’t discouraged by locked lids or closed doors, and they make the best of what they find.
So, while raccoons may be considered “trashy” to some, I see them as resilient, clever, and adaptable. Just like a raccoon, I’m learning to embrace my scrappy side and face life’s challenges with a fearless, curious spirit.
