Have you ever had an idea or a way of life that you followed blindly that you think sounds ridiculous now? Well, I have! I have plenty. Every time I talk to myself whilst I dwell on the past, I end up saying: “what was I thinking? Many tried to stop me. I guess I was into something.” Yes, I was into creating a present filled with questionable life choices and experiences. Nothing major, I hope. Let’s start with some examples, shall we?
Example 1. The shaving conundrum. Why did I start shaving my beard with my dad’s razor behind his back? It will let your beard grow faster, they said. You will look like a man, they said. They didn’t say it will sprout like crazy, and you will have to shave every other day for the rest of your life. Thinking about it right now makes me wonder what I was trying to get into. It is inevitable to avoid shaving of course, but I could have started a bit later than rushing into doing it. What is done is done, I suppose.
Example 2. The Hair gel annihilation I had soft smooth hair once. I ruined it. I applied many hair gel products on my hair that consequently made my hair curl all the time and now it is very hard to comb. I was hoping to look good and impress...? Impress who exactly? I was in an all-male students’ school all my school years. Who was I trying to impress? Thinking about it, no one really cared how I looked. Or how my hair looked like. All I got from this is that I lost my good hair for nothing. And I also lost my allowances on buying hair products. Alas! What have I thrown away?
The moral of this article is not wishing for time to go back. It’s to give a glimpse of how people change and adapt to their current circumstances and environment. You might have done something in the past that makes you sound like a different person from who you are right now. But it’s the same person after all. It is just that your perspectives are wider than before, your view of things is different and of course you are older and wiser.
