Students stay at school from 7:30 am until 9:00 pm at night. They need to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at school. The school also has dorms for students to live at campus. The campus has a coffee shop that sells coffee and other drinks; the coffee shop won’t sell coffee to primary school aged children. The students, staff, and teachers have an ID card that doubles as a debit card. Anyone with an ID on campus can use their card to pay at the canteen or coffee shop.
The first floor offers students, staff, and teachers many options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The first floor has a bakery, fast food, and juice stand (with fruit teas and bubble tea). There is also a “Mara tang”, a spicy soup with meat, vegetables, and tofu all boiled together in a bowl. They also offer plates with rice, a vegetable, and a meat option. Students usually line up outside to buy fruit.
The second floor also has a bakery. The rest of the second floor is standard food plates with rice, a vegetable, and a meat option. The second floor also has a fried rice stall where you can choose different types of meat to “mix in” with your rice. I think the second-floor bakery is superior to the first-floor bakery.
The third floor is for staff and teachers, but students can also get their food there. There are less options for food and the food service is like the traditional cafeteria “line” where your tray moves down the line as you choose what you want to eat. They recently added a noodle station that students seem to enjoy. The school recently remodeled the roof on the third floor with tables and umbrellas for the warmer seasons.
The coffee shop is a space where students, staff, and teachers can buy coffee and drinks. It is a comfortable space with couches and large tables. Students and faculty at the school can stay in the coffee shop to work or talk with each other. The coffee shop is also a great space to host market events and club meetings. The prices are low compared to coffee shops off-campus.
The canteen, or cafeteria, and coffee shop are important and popular places on campus. Students can stay at school and find different dining options for each meal and each day. Lunch is the busiest time of the day, because many students eat breakfast and dinner at their homes; they don’t live on campus. The coffee shop is a very busy place during the lunch break. Teachers go to the coffee shop to work and talk during the slow times on weekdays. Good food and a place to rest is important to make sure the students and faculty are happy. Happy students don’t make as much trouble while happy faculty does a good job for the school and their students.
